C.H.I.C.C.A.Rite of Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age
Rite of Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age (CHICCA)
Children 7 years of age and older who have not previously been baptized in a Christian denomination may learn about the Catholic faith and prepare to celebrate the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in this process adapted from the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). One year of regular RE is required before enrolling in this program. The catechumenate is also for children who have been baptized but have not received any further instruction in the Catholic faith and would now like to prepare for further sacramental celebrations.
The Children’s Catechumenate is a special group that meets every other Saturday evening, from 6:30-8:15 pm, beginning in October. Children are also highly encourages to continue in a regular RE class. Children learn the basics of our Catholic faith and prepare for the Sacraments. During the course of the year, they also celebrate a few special Rites, or religious ceremonies. Children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent (take this out). The Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation take place either at the Easter Vigil or the Sunday after Easter.
